About me

I started training as a Counsellor in 2003 following more than 20 years working as a Radiographer/Sonographer in both the UK and overseas, in the NHS and private healthcare. My interest in Counselling came about when I started an "in house" counselling skills training course at Leicester Royal Infirmary because I thought it would be useful to me as a Radiographer. I became hooked and wanted to learn more, so I carried on to train as a Person Centred Counsellor through South Leicestershire College. I completed my training placements firstly at the Market Harborough Counselling practice and later at Latham House GP practice in Melton Mowbray.

I qualified in 2007 and went on to work as a volunteer Counsellor for both Latham House, MIND in Corby and De Montfort University (DMU). As my counselling skills developed I studied for and gained an Advanced Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Practice for Person-Centred Therapists at Warwick University. I now enjoy using what I consider the best bits of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) in my own practice. I achieved BACP Accreditation status in January 2011. In 2015 I studied for and passed a Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy Supervision. In 2016 I qualified to offer telephone counselling which is really useful for clients who struggle to reach a counsellor for face to face sessions. In 2020 in response to the Covid pandemic I trained in online/video counselling and it's now a large part of my current work.

I continued to work as a Radiographer part time until October 2015 when I finally gave it up to work full time as a Counsellor. I worked at De Montfort University for 11 years as a student counsellor. I also worked at University of Leicester for 18 months as a student Counsellor and for 4 years as a Supervisor on the Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling. In early 2018 I started work as a staff Counsellor at the University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire leaving at the end of Sept 2019 to devote myself entirely to my private practice.

I am happy to work with most issues because over the last 20 years I have worked with people with many forms of psychological problems including bereavement, divorce, work based issues, anxiety & stress, panic attacks, eating disorders, relationship problems, self-esteem issues, abuse, depression and doubts about sexual orientation.

Please note. I do not work with couples, families or under 18’s because I have no experience in these areas.
